Driver killed in head-on collision on Hawkins Store Road in Cobb County
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Cobb County police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on Hawkins Store Road at the intersection with Farmbrook Lane on the evening of Dec. 12. The crash, reported at approximately 6:57 p.m., involved a white 2006 Toyota Tundra and a white 1997 Ford F-250.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit, the Toyota Tundra was traveling west on Hawkins Store Road when the driver lost control, veering between the westbound lane and the raised curb and sidewalk. The driver overcorrected and crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with the Ford F-250.
The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. The Toyota Tundra came to a final uncontrolled rest across both lanes, with its front end in the eastbound lane and its truck bed in the westbound lane. The Ford F-250 also came to rest in the eastbound lane.
Despite efforts by first responders, the driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has notified the victim's next of kin. The driver of the Ford was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
