Witness recalls what happened during fatal East Point shooting

A witness speaks to FOX 5 Atlanta about the moments he realized his coworker had been shot during a argument that turned fatal in an East Point shopping plaza Sunday afternoon.

A man was arrested on Sunday after East Point police said he shot two people in a shopping plaza earlier in the day. Witnesses said he pulled out the gun in the middle of an argument. One of those victims died, the other is recovering.

Howard Colvin, one of the witnesses, said he worked with one of the victims at the Family Dollar in the plaza. He said she ran back into the store leaving a trail of blood after being shot at the Falcon Food Mart a few doors down.

"All I know is she came in there with a gunshot in her back and then there’s another guy in there that got shot by the same guy," said Colvin.

He said they tried to keep her conscious until medics arrived.

"The only thing we were trying to do was trying to keep her coherent, asking her name, what day it was, what her birthday was, stuff like that," Colvin said.

Colvin told FOX 5 his co-worker went to the food mart after her daughter who works there got into it with the shooter.

The suspect was arrested once police arrived. They said he was charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

No further information, including the names of the victims and suspect, have been released at this time.
