Clayton County sheriff race, many Mableton races head to runoffs

Two top positions in Clayton and Cobb counties will head to a runoff after a no one broke the 50 percent plus one threshold in Tuesday's election.

Several races appear to be headed to runoffs stemming from Tuesday’s special elections in Cobb and Clayton counties.

Georgia requires candidates to receive 50% plus one vote to outright win an election, but due to it being a special election without a primary, a number of candidates were on the ballots. This statistically increased the likelihood of a runoff in those races.

The city of Mableton was deciding on its inaugural leadership. Clayton County was determining who would fill the remaining terms for sheriff as well as an open House seat. A question regarding a special school sales tax was also added to the ballot,

Who won Georgia House District 75’s special election?

Eric W. Bell, III, a Navy veteran, is the clear winner to fill the remainder of state Rep. Mike Glanton’s term. He garnered more than 60% of the vote.

Bell worked in the office of Sen. Lester Jackson in the 2017 Georgia Legislative Session. Currently, he is the Government Affairs Coordinator at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Bell also participates in the Clayton, South Fulton, Atlanta, and Airport Chambers of Commerce, the Regional Leadership Institute sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission, and the New Leaders Council.

He beat out fellow Democrat Herman Andrews and Republican Della Ashley.

Clayton County voters wait for final election results

New numbers are coming in from Clayton County. Everyone is waiting to find out who will fill the remainder of ex-sheriff Victor Hill's term as he prepares to serve 18 months in prison for violating the civil rights of detainees at the jail.

Who will likely be in the runoff for Clayton County Sheriff?

Levon Allen was the leader on Tuesday, pulling about 47% of the vote. He will likely face Clarence Cox, who pulled in about 29% of the vote, in a runoff on April 18.

Did the Clayton County Schools one-cent tax pass?

Clayton County residents overwhelmingly agrees to pass a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). It is the "General Obligation Bonds and Sales and Use Tax for Educational Purposes of the Clayton County School District."

The measure passed by nearly 80% of the vote.

Which Mableton City races were decided Tuesday?

It appears that two races for the city of Mableton’s inaugural council have been decided. 

Ron Davis took 52% of the vote, beating out DeBorah Johnson in District 1.

In District 4, Patricia Auch will face Cassandra Brown in a runoff. 

Debora Herndon ran unopposed in District 6.

Latest results pour in for first mayor of Mableton race

In the newly formed city of Mableton, voters are choosing their first city leaders. If these current results for mayor hold, Aaron Carman and Michael Owens could be headed to an April 18 runoff election.

Which Mableton City races are likely headed to a runoff?

The Mableton Mayor and three other districts still need to be decided.

Aaron Carman and Michael Owens appear to be squaring off for mayor. Both received over 30% of the vote.

The three candidates in District 2 were all within 10 points of each other. It appears Monica Delancy and Dami Oladapo are likely headed for the runoff with Kisha Scott trailing by less than four points behind Oladapo.

In District 3, it was even tighter. It appears Keisha Jeffcoat and Yashica Marshall will also meet in a runoff. Marshall, who pulled 24% of the vote, beat out Barry Krebs by less than a percentage point. It is unclear if this race will be recounted.

TJ Ferguson and Cheryl Davis appear to be in a runoff for District 5.
