Police say the alert was prompted after someone reported an armed person on the campus. After a brief investigation, officers were able to determine there was no threat, and an "all clear" was given.
In a statement issued late Friday afternoon, Emory Police Deputy Chief Burt Buchtinec wrote:
"I understand that many at Emory—students, faculty, staff, parents and families—were deeply shaken and concerned by this experience. I want you to know that the actions of the Emory Police Department were pursued as a cautionary measure. We responded quickly to keep everyone as safe as possible."
