Fulton County Gov't Center to remain closed Friday to clear smoke, damage
ATLANTA - Fulton County officials say the government center will remain closed on Friday as workers continue to clear the building of smoke and potential damage from a fire.
Shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, Atlanta Fire and Rescue responded to reports of smoke in the Fulton County Government Center.
They were able to determine that the smoke was caused by a fire outside on the Martin Luther King Jr. side of the facility near the air intake units. A large quantity of smoke was drawn into the building.
Even after the fire was extinguished, there was still a lot of smoke inside. Employees were dismissed for the day or asked to telework or report to another location.
Restoration experts were hired to address the smoke. Workers will be using air scrubbers, carbon filters and other equipment.
The Public Safety Building at 130 Peachtree Street, SW and the Fulton County Justice Center Complex are unaffected by this incident and remain open, along with other Fulton County service locations.
