WOODSTOCK, Ga. - The family attorney for the man killed by a former Woodstock police officer is offering reaction after a Cobb County judge ruled the officer would not serve any time behind bars. This after the officer pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Andrew Lampros, the attorney for the family of 20-year-old Emmanuel Millard, said the family is disappointed former Woodstock Police Officer Grant Shaw won't serve any time in prison.
"It was a killing of a young man, and it was really unnecessary," Lampros said.

Former Woodstock police officer’s trial
Prosecutors asked for ten years with two to be served behind bars, but the Cobb County District Attorney's office said the judge suspended that sentence for 500 hours of community service.
"Basically, it's a 10-year probated sentence with two years home confinement, some community service and maybe some other incidental things," Lampros explained.
In October 2023, three officers, including Shaw, tried to pull Millard over for failing to maintain his lane. Police say he took off and officers stopped him on Old Mountain Park Road in Cobb County. That's when Officer Shaw shot Millard while trying to arrest him. Millard died days later. Shaw resigned from the police department that same month. A grand jury indicted him on the involuntary manslaughter charge in April.
Lampros said dash camera and body camera footage of the incident shows Millard was trying to comply.
"Mr. Shaw got out of his car and he pointed his gun at Mr. Millard and I'm going to paraphrase that he told him that if he didn't get out of the car, he was gonna kill him. Mr. Millard was trying to comply with those directives and Mr. Shaw did just that. He shot him and killed him," Lampros said.

Settlement for family of Andrew Lampros
Lampros said the family has also reached an agreement on a civil suit for this incident, although he wasn't able to provide further details.
"It's a cliché. There are no winners in this case. The Millards lost a child. The Shaw family, I'm sure that they regret what has happened. Of course, they do have their family members with them," he said.
"And hoping that Miss Millard and Mr. Francis Emmanuel's parents can try to find some closure or find some peace," he added.
The city of Woodstock sent FOX 5 a statement following this sentencing:
"The City of Woodstock cooperated fully with the Cobb County District Attorney’s office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the Emmanuel Millard case. The best source of information regarding the criminal investigation and any court proceedings is the Cobb County District Attorney's Office."
