Exclusive: Georgia Tech supervisor arrested for sex crimes

A Georgia Tech supervisor is charged with sexual battery on a female subordinate inside a student dorm.

Georgia Tech police arrested Ernest Guillermo Olivares, 52, on June 22.  According to a police report, someone reported Olivares for sexual harrassment of a female employee on June 20. 

Police charged Olivares with sexual battery and aggravated sexual battery.  A Georgia Tech crime log shows the crimes happened on June 8 and June 9 at Maulding Residence Hall on Sixth Street, NW. 

Olivares is Senior Director of Housing Facilities Management​ for Georgia Tech, which is the department responsible for cleaning and maintaining residence halls on campus. 

A Georgia Tech spokesperson released a statement on Olivares's arrest, saying: 

"On June 22 the Georgia Tech Police Department arrested Ernest Olivares, an employee in the Institute’s Department of Housing. He has been charged with sexual battery and aggravated sexual battery and is in custody at the Fulton County Jail. No students were involved.  Olivares has been placed on administrative leave. The Georgia Institute of Technology is unable to offer further details because the Institute does not discuss personnel matters or ongoing investigations."

Under Georgia law, Olivares could face up to life in prison if convicted.
