Meta apologizes for Facebook, Instagram outages
Meta is apologizing to users after multiple social media apps were down on Wednesday, including Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger.
"Thanks for bearing with us!" the company posted on social media. "We’re 99% of the way there - just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who’ve been affected by the outage."
According to the Downdetector website, outages were first reported around 1 p.m. Eastern Time from coast to coast. Services started to resume within the hour.
Most users reported issues with the mobile apps themselves as opposed to their desktop versions. Facebook Messengers had the highest percentage of outages with its app.
"We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps" Meta originally posted on social media. "We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience."
