Police standoff in southwest Atlanta

Police have blocked off a neighborhood near Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard while they remain in a standoff with a potentially armed man at a home.

Shots were fired during an argument over loud music at a southwest Atlanta home near a local elementary school, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

The tense situation began around 2 a.m. Monday at a home on Fair Street right off Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard.

Investigators say the roommates had gotten into a fight over the loud music, leading to one firing shots at the other.

The gunman then retreated back into his room and locked the door, police say.

FOX 5 cameras saw a man leave the home with his hands up at around 3:30 a.m.

Officers at the scene put the man in the back of one of their police cruisers.

The Tactical Field Operators, the SWAT Unit, and hostage negotiators were brought to the scene.

Eventually, officers entered the home after trying to contact the man.

No one was found inside.

Police say no one was injured during the incident.

The entire area, which was cordoned off during the standoff, returned to normal before school started.

Investigators have not released the identities of either man.

The location of the standoff is close to M. Agnes Jones Elementary School.
