House fire on Redding Road

A massive fire ripped through a home on Redding Road in DeKalb County overnight. Breaking news. Brooke Zauner reporting.

A DeKalb County family narrowly escaped harm after a massive fire tore through their 7,500-square-foot home on Redding Road late Sunday night, just days before Christmas.

Firefighters responded to the scene shortly before 11 p.m., finding heavy flames engulfing much of the residence. Crews quickly established a water supply and began working to extinguish the blaze. Despite the fire's intensity and the challenges posed by the home's size, no injuries were reported.

"The homeowners were awake at the time and smelled smoke," Capt. Jaseson Daniels said. "They called 911 and managed to get out safely."

Fire crews remained at the scene overnight, extinguishing hot spots and ensuring the fire did not reignite. Officials described the damage as devastating, particularly given the timing so close to the holidays.

"Our hearts go out to the family. These situations are always tough, but especially at the end of the year."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and it may take time to determine what sparked the blaze. For now, the family is safe, but their home has been significantly damaged.

This remains an active scene as firefighters continue their work.
