FBI: Serial armed robbers strike Waffle House in Sandy Springs
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - Law enforcement confirmed Wednesday the armed robbery at a Sandy Springs Waffle House Tuesday evening was the work of serial robbing crew.
FOX 5 News was the only station reporting live from Waffle House located off Northridge Road and Roswell Road Tuesday night. Sandy Springs Police said the dangerous armed robber stormed the diner before 9:45 p.m. Police said the man pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money from the cash register. No one was injured, but employees were quite rattled by the incident. The man fled the scene on foot.
Police said the man Tuesday was wearing a hoodie, red pants, red shoes, and purple gloves.
The FBI said this is the work of the serial armed robbers which have been tied to nine other armed robberies across the metro Atlanta area. This time, only one of the bandits showed up to perform the crime.
“These guys are scary,” FBI spokesperson Kevin Rowson said. “They’re getting more and more violent each time.”
The spree started last month in Union City, but has since spread to East Point, Conyers, Decatur, Tucker, Chamblee and now Sandy Springs. The crew hit four Family Dollar stores, two Waffle House restaurants as well as a CVS and Walgreens pharmacies.
The FBI said finding this group is at the top of their priority list. They believe there are four people part of the crew.
