Fire officials investigating string of house fires; severe weather, lightning likely cause

GEORGIA - Fire crews are investigating several house fires in metro Atlanta as severe weather sweeps across parts of Georgia on Wednesday. Officials say lightening may be the cause of most of the fires.

According to officials, two fires broke out at separate homes in Forsyth County Wednesday morning. One of the fires ignited at a home in the 1500 block of Grand Forest Drive in Cumming. A second fire reportedly broke out at another home in the area around 10 a.m.

In DeKalb County, fire officials say they responded to a possible house fire in the 3300 block of Woodrow Way in Atlanta. A broken gas line caused another house fire in the 4100 block of Liffey Lane in Decatur, according to the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department's Twitter account.

Gwinnett County fire officials report a house fire in the 400 block of Winchester Way in Loganville. Just before 10 a.m., officials say a caller reported the fire as a possible lightning strike, and no injuries were reported. A FOX 5 crew also responded to the scenes of two house fires in Gwinnett County, including one on Trailblazer Way. 

Meanwhile, another house fire was reported in the 5100 block of Bowers Brooke Drive in Lilburn. Officials say a caller reported the roof on fire after a lightning strike hit the home.  No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to a house in the 6000 block of Old Town Place in Norcross reportedly caused by a lightning strike around 10 a.m. Officials say there was no indication of smoke or flames when fire crews arrived at the scene and no injuries were reported.
