Firefighters rescue cat from Lawrenceville fire sparked near trash can in garage

Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of Brighton Cove Trail NE in Lawrenceville at 12:28 p.m. Wednesday, finding heavy flames engulfing the garage and attic. Crews worked quickly, using multiple hose lines to bring the blaze under control within 30 minutes.

During their search of the home, firefighters rescued a cat from a back bedroom. The pet was promptly treated with a specialized oxygen mask and is expected to recover.

The fire caused significant damage to the garage and attic. Preliminary investigations indicate the fire originated near a garbage can in the garage, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

One occupant of the home was displaced by the fire, and the American Red Cross is providing assistance. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
