Metal recycling facility fire investigation

Fire investigators are still working to determine what caused a large fire at a metal recycling facility near Forest Park in Clayton County.

Firefighters continued through the night putting out hot spots to an industrial fire just outside the Forest Park city limits Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at a metal recycling plant in the 1300 block of Forest Parkway. Lake City police said witnesses reported hearing an explosion right before the fire started.

Firefighters from Clayton County and Forest Park were on the scene battling the flames.

Lake City Police Chief Anthony Whitmire told FOX 5 that an arson investigator was called to the scene, but its not clear what those findings were. He said he understands the fire is deep seated and that's why crews were still dealing with hotspots.
