Florida man dies while trying to save wife from rip current
MIAMI - A Fort Myers man died trying to save his wife from a rip current in Miami over the weekend.
The 34-year-old drowning victim and his wife were swimming along shore at Miami Beach when the rip current picked up around 2 p.m. Witnesses said the man tried to help his wife when she started to drown and that's when he was swept away.
“We get currents like this from time to time,” one witness said. “I can see how if you’re from out of town, maybe that would be something you’re not familiar with.”
One beachgoer captured cell phone video as emergency responders pulled the husband from the water and performed CPR. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
