A flash flood warning is currently in effect for Floyd and Bartow counties. Residents who live near the county line say they are taken aback by the extremely high water levels they saw.
It really caught us all by surprise I don’t think anyone out here was really expecting that," said John Barge, who lives nearby.
Rising water tore up the asphalt on a bridge along McClain Road Saturday afternoon. By the evening, the water receded showing the incredible damage left behind.
"We had a river going down the road. So, even with a large truck, there was no going in that water," Barge said.
Some neighbors tell FOX 5 the high waters almost covered their mailboxes at one point.
Another resident, Samantha Roland, claimed her father and his dog were almost submerged in his truck. She said he and the pup escaped by swimming to safety.
"I was really worried about my dad because he’s in his 70s and he is a good swimmer, but with the water currents the way they were going and everything, he’s like, ‘My truck is gone'. And I’m like, 'Dad, don’t worry about your truck," she said.
Luckily, it appears that everyone is okay. Still, many of the people FOX 5 spoke with were in shock. They say it hasn't flooded like this in their area in years.
"As long as we've lived here, we've never seen the water this high on these roads," the woman said. "There's farmland that's flooded, and cows that are trying to get to higher ground. It's been very traumatic for the people who live here."
