ATLANTA - A former Atlanta police officer convicted in the brutal murder of a woman he met online has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 16 years.
Tahreem Rana was found guilty in the death of 26-year-old Vernecia Woodard, who was shot in the head, doused with gasoline and set on fire in 2014.
DNA evidence discovered on Rana's service weapon was an exact match to the victim.
Rana was an Atlanta Police officer at the time of the murder, but was subsequently fired.
Rana was found guilty of murder, felony murder, tampering with evidence, concealing death of another, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, arson of land, and four counts of violation of office.
