Former CASA executive director charged with theft by taking

Carrollton Police have charged the former executive director of CASA Carroll County with theft by taking.

Police say Staci Cook faces between one and ten years behind bars if convicted for allegedly stealing from a foster child advocacy non-profit.

"There were Venmo transactions," said Detective Brandon Wilson. "People would donate to CASA, she would transfer them from CASA's Venmo account to her personal Venmo account, and later her bank account."

Carrollton investigators say CASA Carroll County conducted an audit and allegedly found "unusual" and "excessive" spending.

"The executive director had gotten extra paychecks, something they found initially," said Detective Wilson.

The investigation is ongoing. For now, police believe at least $7,000 has been taken.

Kylie Carroll, CASA Carroll County Chair, shared this statement with FOX 5 Atlanta:

"Carroll County CASA no longer employs Ms. Cook, and there is an ongoing investigation with the Carrollton Police Department. As a Board, we are focused on positively moving forward according to the purpose of the organization. We have great confidence in the leadership of our newly appointed Executive Director and are committed to serving the foster children within our community."
