Former Douglasville police chief talks about high speed arrest
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - For the first time, former Douglasville Police Chief, Chris Womack, talks about his controversial arrest of a man who led police on a dangerous, high speed chase.
Womack testified during the trial of the suspected shoplifter, Morris Slaughter, who ran from police down Interstate 20 at speeds of more than 130 miles per hour.
A jury convicted Slaughter of two felony counts of fleeing a law enforcement officer and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
Chris Womack in an exclusive interview with the FOX 5 I-Team said he was only trying to protect himself, Slaughter, and the public when he pulled him out of the wrecked car at gunpoint.
The Fulton County DA's office is investigating whether Womack and other officers used excessive force during the arrest.
Senior FOX 5 I-team reporter Dale Russell has the first interview with the former chief about the case.
