Former UGA football player dies afer Florida crash
ATHENS, Ga. - The hashtag #PrayForGleaton has been trending as a show of support for former University of Georgia football player Gleaton Jones.
Jones, a former walk-on running back, was part of the Bulldogs' historic 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship team. He ended up in the intensive care unit at a Florida hospital after a car crash last week during a hunting trip on St. Georga Island, according to The Red & Black.
Jones suffered a severe brain injury and underwent emergency surgery, but was taken off life support on Friday morning and passed away a short time later.
A memorial service for the 21-year-old will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, at Wynfield Plantation.
Other services have not been announced.
