Forsyth County church fights adult only hotel
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - A local community is upset after learning an adult only hotel will be just feet away. Pastor Travis Bridgeman, of Antioch Baptist Church, tells FOX 5 a hotel that caters to adults only will be 50 feet away from the back of their church.
"All that will separate us is a fence," Pastor Bridgeman says.
The plans for the hotel were approved recently after being tabled last year.
"If you are on less than five acres, it doesn't have to be approved by commissioners. The property was 9 acres. They divided it up. The lot the hotel is on is less than five. That's how it got approved," Bridgeman says.
Bridgeman says having a hotel of that sort may affect the community.
"What's next? This could be a gateway for other adult only businesses," Bridgeman says.
Ethan Underwood, the attorney representing the hotel, tells FOX 5 the hotel is getting a bad rap.
"It was rated top ten best hotels in the country this year by Trip Advisor," Underwood says.
Underwood says calling it an adult only hotel gives it a negative connotation.
"It's a child free couple's retreat," Underwood says.
