Atlanta police officer shoots suspect in bus station double stabbing
An Atlanta police officer has shot a woman carrying two knives accused of stabbing two people during an altercation at a Downtown Greyhound bus station.
ATLANTA - A police shooting outside the Downtown Atlanta Greyhound bus station has ended with three people in the hospital. Two of the injured were stabbed, the third shot by an officer.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says around 10:30 p.m. Thursday a woman walked inside the bus station on the 200 block of Forsyth Street. As she approached the counter, officials say she stabbed a man and woman. Both victims fled, and the woman remained on the scene, still holding the knives in her hands.
An officer approached the woman, who by now had gone outside. Police say the officer repeatedly told her to put down both the knives they say she was carrying. According to investigators, the woman ignored the commands and started walking towards the officer. When she got too close, he opened fire and shot the woman.
The suspect was taken into custody and brought to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment. At last check, she was in stable condition. Paramedics rushed both of the stabbing victims to Grady Memorial. They also are stable. The officer wasn't hurt.
Following normal protocol, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to take over the investigation. Their agents could be seen collecting evidence well into the morning hours.
Officials have not released the identities of the female suspect or the victims.
This is the 12th officer-involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate this year.
