MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. - The Meriwether County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a wanted murder suspect accused of killing a man at Augusta's Fort Eisenhower during an "active shooter" situation Saturday morning.
The shooting happened before 9 a.m. on Saturday. At around 10:45 a.m., Meriwether County deputies received a call that the suspect was traveling through their jurisdiction.
They matched the vehicle and suspect's description to a car going southbound on I-85.
Sergeant Bradford and Deputy Presley conducted a felony traffic stop around the 29-mile marker and said they witnessed the suspect toss a handgun out of the passenger window of the car.
He was arrested without incident and evidence was collected from the vehicle.
The suspect and evidence were turned over to the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
