Foul play suspected in deadly Cobb County house fire
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Cobb County police are now investigating a house fire that left one teen dead as a homicide.
Authorities told FOX 5 evidence found at the scene led them to believe the fire was not accidental. Authorities were called out to 3000 block of Shadow Ridge Road around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officer Alicia Chilton said a young girl was pulled out from a second story window. Neighbors said her older brother made it out in time by jumping out of a window.
“He was yelling for help saying his sister was still inside,” Rodney Sepulveda said.
The teen boy was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses said a man was handcuffed at the scene and taken to police headquarters for questioning. Authorities confirm a man was detained, but he has since been released. They are not naming anyone as a suspect at this time.
Crews spent much of Saturday and Sunday bagging up evidence at the scene.
A 29-year resident of the neighborhood said this sort of thing hasn't happened here before.
“This is normally a very quiet neighborhood... everyone is really friendly. This is just shocking,” Arthur Melson said.
Anyone who may have information in this case is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department or Atlanta Crime Stoppers.
