Full moon 2025: When April’s ‘Pink Moon’ will hit the sky

Wondering when to catch the next full moon?

Here’s what the sky has in store for the month of April:

When is April’s full moon?

April’s full moon will appear the night of Sunday, April 13. It will peak at 8:22 p.m. ET.

Micromoon

You’ve probably heard of a supermoon - and this month, we’ll be witnessing the opposite.

A micromoon appears when the Moon reaches its furthest point from Earth, making it appear slightly smaller.

The next supermoon, or when the moon will naturally appear larger, won’t be until early October, NASA says

Meanwhile:

The first full moon of astronomical spring is traditionally known as the Pink Moon.

Despite its colorful nickname, don't expect a rosy hue. The Pink Moon gets its name from the pink phlox and other spring flowers that begin to bloom in April.

Dig deeper:

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the first full moon of spring is used to determine the date of Easter. Easter is Sunday, April 20.

Lyrid meteor shower

What's next:

The sky will put on another show later in the month, with the annual Lyrid meteor shower peaking on the nights of April 21-22.

FOX Weather says viewing of the meteors will be in good conditions, weather dependent, because light pollution from the moon’s cycle currently will be minimal.
