Fulton County superintendent finalist announced
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Fulton County Board of Education announced Wednesday the finalist for Superintendent of Schools for the county.
Officials said Michael “Mike” Looney received a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Alabama and has been a superintendent for 14 years, 10 of those years were in Williamson County, Tennessee.
"Dr. Looney has a very impressive background and track record of success during the ten years as superintendent in his current district," said Linda Bryant, President. " The Board believes his experience and leadership skills will complement the amazingly talented teachers, principals and staff, and our focus on student achievement.”
Officials said ACT average scores in the district rose from 22.7 to 25.4 under Looney.
The school board must give the public two weeks to make their input known about the superintendent, according to Georgia law.
Officials said the Board will host five meetings where the public can meet Looney and ask the questions they have. They can meet Looney at Roswell High School at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Banneker High School at 5 p.m. and Westlake High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday morning at Centennial High School at 10:30 a.m.
