Funeral services Thursday for Eastman police officer

EASTMAN, Ga. - A middle Georgia police officer killed in the line of duty will be laid to rest Thursday.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon for Eastman Police Officer Tim Smith. The 6-year veteran was killed Saturday morning while responding to a suspicious person call.

Early Monday morning, authorities announced the arrest of 24-year-old Royheem Delshawn Deeds, who had been identified as the suspected gunman. He was arrested in Nassau County, Florida, which is north of Jacksonville. 

Blue ribbons have been placed around the small town to honor the officer's life. 

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. inside the Dodge County High School Gymnasium.
