Investigators said it happened around 6:45 a.m. at a home in the 1000 block of Jones Bluff Court inside the Reynolds Plantation area.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the resident called 911 to report an intruder. Deputies said when they arrived, they found Marc Dimos, 51, of Minerva, Ohio, dead in the basement as a result of apparent gunshot trauma.
The GBI took out a warrant for murder for Chad Haufler, Sr., 45, later that evening. Haufler is from Ocala, Florida, but also has a residence in Reynolds at Lake Oconee.
Dimos’ body was taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur where an autopsy will be performed.
"We have no indication that anyone in the public is in imminent danger," the sheriff's office posted on its Facebook page.
Investigators said a rumor of a lockdown of Lake Oconee Academy or an active shooter incident was incorrect.
