DUNWOODY, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified an armed robbery suspect who was shot and killed by a Dunwoody Police officer over the weekend.
According to the GBI, the man has been identified as 44-year-old Jason Lappe.
Police said the shooting happened in a Walmart parking lot on Winter Chapel Road around 7:45 a.m. Saturday after being told Lappe had pulled into the store's lot. Lappe was suspected of robbing a Kroger in Johns Creek with a handgun, police said. According to authorities, a witness followed the suspect to the parking Walmart parking lot.
During the confrontation, police said Lappe left his vehicle and was not complying with their commands. It was at this time that an officer fired one shot at the suspect.
The suspect was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The case has now been turned over to the GBI for an outside investigation at the request of the Dunwoody Police Department.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
