Coweta County deputy-involved shooting update
FOX 5 has learned more about the 76-year-old man who was shot and killed by Coweta County deputies Saturday night. The GBI says Michael Adams shot his wife, and when deputies arrived they say he turned the gun on them.
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into shooting in which deputies say they exchanged gunfire with a man, killing him Saturday night.
The Coweta County Sheriff's Office say they were called to a home on Tranquil Road in Senoia in reference to a domestic dispute at around 9 p.m. They were told a woman there had been shot by a man.
When deputies with the Sheriff's Office and officers with the Senoia Police Department arrived at the home, they saw 76-year-old Michael Adams with a gun. The GBI says that deputies attempted to convince Adams to put the gun down, but he pointed the gun at deputies. At that time, two deputies and one officer opened fire and hit Adams.
"It sounded like machine gun fire," nearby neighbor Scott Hinton told FOX 5. "I tried to come up here a little bit later. All the cops are out here and wouldn't let us pass, and nobody really would say anything about what happened."
Officials say Adams died at the scene.

Adams' wife was identified as the female victim. She was transported to a local hospital.
On Sunday, FOX 5 reporter Rob Dirienzo met with her. She told him she had only gotten two hours of sleep and was visibly distraught.
The GBI was called in to investigate the shooting, which is standard procedure when law enforcement is involved in a shooting. Once their investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
This is the 38th police shooting that the GBI has investigated this year.
