K-9 killed, deputy injured in chase, crash

A deadly shooting involving a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office K-9 in Fairburn on Wednesday night. A fleeing driver opened fire on deputies, wounding a deputy and killing K-9 Titan.

A K-9 officer and the driver suspected of killing him are dead, and a deputy is injured after a high-speed chase and shooting on a highway in Fairburn overnight.

Officials say the incident began at around 11 p.m. on North Highway 29 near Tommy Lee Cook Road when a Coweta County deputy tried to stop a Chrysler 300.

Instead of stopping, officials say 23-year-old Atlanta resident Jason Andre Wilson sped off, entering Fulton County at speeds of 110 mph.

New details about K9 killed, injured deputy

New details have been released about the Coweta County K9 killed and deputy injured during a chase late Wednesday night.

The deputy reportedly stopped Wilson with a PIT maneuver and deployed K-9 Officer Titan to apprehend the driver.

Officials say Wilson opened fire, hitting Titan multiple times and killing him.

Georgia K-9 killed, deputy wounded in shootout

A K-9 officer is dead and a deputy is recovering after a high-speed chase and shootout in metro Atlanta.

According to the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, the deputy was grazed by multiple bullets and returned fire, hitting and killing Wilson. 

Medics rushed the deputy to a local hospital. He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.  

Wilson's body has been taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to do an independent investigation into the shooting. If you have any information that could help with the investigation, call the GBI.

Roosevelt Highway remains closed at this time and drivers are being diverted onto McLarin Road.

Coweta County mourns death of K-9 Titan

On Facebook, the Coweta County Sheriff's Office said that K-9 Titan has served in the department for more than five years.

During his time, Titan has found multiple missing people and helped with the apprehension of many wanted suspects, the sheriff wrote.

Officials have not released the identity of Titan's handler.
