The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the officer-involved shooting by the Fayetteville Police Department.

The GBI said a Meriweather County Sheriff's Office deputy tried to pull over a car on Ga Highway 85 South, but it turned into a chase. Officers deployed "stop-sticks" and deflated the car's tires, but the chase continued.

The pursuit ended along Banks Road just a block south of the Glynn Street intersection after Fayette County Sheriff's deputy performed a PIT maneuver, stopping the vehicle.

According to the GBI, when officers approached the vehicle to arrest the driver, identified as 36-year-old Stone Mountain resident Rodriguez Kemp, he fired at them with a shotgun.

Officers then returned fire, hitting Kemp multiple times.

Medics rushed Kemp to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. No officers were injured.
