GBI: Standoff suspect dies after shooting with Forsyth Co. deputies
CUMMING, Ga. - A standoff suspect has died after a shooting involving Forsyth County deputies.
The incident began Wednesday night when a shooting call came in around 10:30 p.m. Responding deputies arrived at the Grand Prix Street location and found two men in the street firing guns. Investigators said the men were having some kind of dispute. One of them was quickly taken into custody, but the other ran inside a home.
Deputies surrounded the house and called in the SWAT team. For hours, negotiators tried to get the man to surrender. During the standoff he repeatedly came out of the home, armed with both a shotgun and handgun, but kept going back inside. After a couple of hours, the man came out one last time and confronted the deputies with the weapons. That's when they shot him, according to investigators.
Deputies provided aid until paramedics arrived. They then took him to the hospital, where he later died, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
No deputies suffered any injuries. Officials said they don't think the man fired at them. All of the deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is being handled by the GBI.
Officials wouldn't give out much information about the man, only saying he was white. They are trying to determine if he lived in the home, had any relationship with the other gunman and what caused the dispute that had them both firing in the street.
