The aquarium said in a statement that its staff is "heartbroken" after the death of Qinu's baby.
Qinu began to experience complications, after several hours of labor this morning.
"The position and shape of the calf prevented the delivery and it was determined the calf had died before it had a chance to be born," the statement said.
The staff is now taking care of Qinu and making sure she recovers. The beluga whale exhibit is going to remain closed for the time being.
This was Qinu's first pregnancy. The aquarium first announced the news in June and have been closely following her development on their website and through social media.
The aquarium received hundreds of messages of condolences and support after posting the news to their Facebook page.
