Georgia first lady Sanda Deal continues reading initiative
ATLANTA - She didn’t stop when she read to her 900th class and she didn’t stop when she was recently honored by the Georgia Literacy Commission and the Share the Magic Foundation. Georgia first lady Sandra Deal continued her mission this week make literacy a priority in the state’s classrooms.
Mrs. Deal stopped at an Atlanta elementary school to spread that message by once again reading to classes. She read aloud to students from Kindergarten to 5th grade at Dobbs Elementary School Tuesday afternoon.
She says she also took it a step further and used the lesson from the book to teach an important life lesson.
This visit is part of her Read Across Georgia initiative in support of Gov. Nathan Deal’s increasing the percentage of children reading at grade level by the end of third grade.
