Georgia police seize thousands of homemade vape cartridges

Athens-Clarke County police are warning residents to be careful what you buy when it comes to vaping products about a recent police seizure.

According to police, earlier this week law enforcement executed a search warrant that resulted in officers seizing around 2,370 fake THC vape cartridges.

The vape cartridges look identical to ones produced by a California company, a state in which THC cartridges are legal, but officials say the offender assembled the homemade cartridges with other chemicals, which carry health concerns.

Hundreds of "confirmed and probable cases" linked to vaping have been reported, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nine deaths have also been reported.

Athens-Clarke police say they wanted to remind residents that purchasing THC from another state where it is legal and shipping it to Georgia is still illegal.
