Tornado reported in south Georgia

Several storm spotters in south Georgia spotted a funnel cloud in Bainbridge, Georgia on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service confirmed a weak tornado tore through a south Georgia city on Wednesday afternoon leaving behind pockets of damage.

Weather officials said an EF-0 tornado touched down just after 3 p.m. southwest of Evans Street between S. West and Academy streets. It uprooted a tree and then trekked northeastward damaging an apartment complex, knocking down a highway sign, and downing several trees and branches.

It also peeled back the roof and caused damage to the sign at the Bearcat Express along Calhoun Street, caused minor damage to a metal carport, and damaged the roof of a home. it lifted nearby, but not before taking down a few more trees.

Eyewitnesses caught the funnel cloud on camera.

Meteorologists said the tornado was half the length of a football field wide and was on the ground less than a mile packing winds of about 80 mph.

There were no reports of injuries.
