Neighbor Kris Mayers says he was inside his home next door, in the kitchen, putting away dishes, when he heard heavy rain and something else.
"I heard the tree cracking…and then I heard it fall and hit the house," said neighbor Kris Mayers. "So, I ran over to her, banged on the door a few times, make sure she was all right. She didn’t really say anything because she was all shook up."
Eventually, the woman came out of the door and Mayers was able to help her out.
Mayers, who has a newborn, says his dad instincts kicked into full gear.
The woman considers him her savior, but he shakes that moniker off.
"I did what I had to do. I did what any man would do. Knowing that there’s an older lady in this house by herself," Mayers said. "I’m just a person with a heart."
The tree pierced through the roof of the home, but it appears it did not damage the brick of the home.
