ATLANTA - A solemn day of remembrance in Atlanta to honor Georgia’s lynching victims.
The Absolom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing held a service Friday to memorialize more than 600 victims of lynching between 1866 and 1964.
Organizers unveiled four bronze panels which are inscribed with the victims' names.
Participants also read their names aloud.
Organizers also acknowledged that other people were lynched, but their number and identities remain unknown.
They said the effort to honor these victims has gone on for three years with similar markers placed in Macon and Athens.
