Groundbreaking for John R. Lewis Elementary School
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County breaks ground on a new school named after one of Georgia's Civil Rights leaders.
Thursday afternoon, DeKalb County school officials gathered at the site of the future John R. Lewis Elementary School on Skyland Drive in Brookhaven.
The new school will house around 900 students.
The $30 million project will offer a state of the art learning facility for students and a multi-acre public park nearby for community members.
Students have been enrolled at John Lewis Elementary School since 2016.
Right now, they attend classes at the former International Student Center on North Druid Hills Road.
They will relocate once construction is completed.
