BROOKHAVEN, Ga. - Stores sell some authentic looking weapons that are in fact toys. And they are popular with teenagers.
On Saturday evening in the Ashford Park community of Brookhaven, two teens decided it might be fun to try to prank passing motorists by staging a fake gun assault, according to Brookhaven Police Major Brandon Gurley.
Gurley said when a nervous motorist saw this, she placed a 911 call and police hurried to get there.
The two teens scampered to hide in bushes. Police said they found them, along with a real-looking rifle and handgun.
Those toy weapons and the boys were returned to their parents with a warning. Police said it is not a good idea, especially in public and at night, to stage this type of gunplay.
The major fears that in today's climate, an armed motorist might have witnessed the scene and came out with a real gun and intervened.
