Gunfire erupts in East Point; Man arrested after SWAT standoff

A man accused of opening fire outside an East Point apartment building after a fight has been taken into custody after a SWAT standoff on Wednesday evening. 

Officers responded at around 3:40 p.m. to the 3200 block of Matador Court after reports of a fight and gunfire. According to the East Point Police Department, the victim informed officers that he had been involved in a fight with a male resident of the apartment complex.

After the fight, the victim told investigators the man, whose name has not been released, pulled a gun from his vehicle and began firing at him and others around the apartment complex. No one was struck. The man then retreated to his apartment, according to police.

Officers attempted to speak with the man at the apartment's front door, but he refused to come out. The East Point Police Criminal Investigation Division and the South Metro SWAT Team were called to the scene. Officers said they were able to end the standoff peacefully with the man surrendering.

No injuries have been reported, and authorities have not disclosed the identities of those involved. The investigation is ongoing.

Charges are pending.
