Gwinnett Co. man arrested after SWAT team called in
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A mother and her toddler are safe this morning after a Gwinnett County SWAT incident in Grayson ended peacefully Saturday morning.
Gwinnett County Police were called around 11:45 p.m. to the 2600 Block of Pointcrest Way regarding a domestic disturbance.
When they arrived, they met with the victim outside the home where she told them her boyfriend, who was still inside the residence, was intoxicated and was waving a gun during the dispute. She also said her 18-month old child was still inside the home.
Officers attempted to contact the suspect, identified as Chad Prather, but were unsuccessful. Given the circumstances, the Gwinnett County SWAT team was called to the scene.
Once the SWAT team arrived, negotiators attempted to speak Prather, but were unsuccessful.
After receiving no responses from Prather, a robot was used to make contact with him.
At about 7 a.m., the SWAT team entered the home and took Prather into custody without incident.
The child was found safe inside the home and was returned to her mother.
Prather was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center. He is charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and obstruction of a 911 call.
