Mom fatally shot in Gwinnett County, suspect identified but not yet arrested, police say

The family of a woman shot and killed inside her home in unincorporated Norcross over the weekend are speaking up.

The shooting happened on Saturday at around 7 p.m. at a home on Creeldale Drive.

"Happy, with a big heart. A big smile, always," that’s how Rosa described her sister-in-law Jackmerly Hernandez Rodriguez.

Her family has identified Jackmerly as the victim of Saturday night’s shooting at the home where she lived.

FOX 5 Atlanta reporter Eric Mock spoke to Victor, who is Jackmerly’s brother-in-law, and Rosa, his wife, who helped interpret for him.

The couple only wanted their first names used and didn’t want their faces shown as the killer is still at large.

The two told FOX 5 how Jackmerly had been in the U.S. since January and had emigrated from Venezuela.

"Not even a year. She was very happy, she wanted to work. She had just bought her car," Rosa said.

"Yeah, the little boy is suffering," Rosa said. "This is kind of difficult for us."

Gwinnett County Police investigators say there were multiple witnesses inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Rosa and Victor told us now their family will be hurting this Christmas as they take care of Jackmerly’s orphaned child and figure out how to send her remains back to her home country.

"Now we have to send her back to Venezuela and things here are really difficult, but most of all for her son," they said.
