Gwinnett County home destroyed by fire
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Firefighters in Gwinnett County spent Thursday afternoon battling a house fire near Dacula.
Emergency crews were called out around 5:09 p.m. to the 2900 block of Superior Drive after someone spotted smoke coming from the back of a home. Firefighters said they arrived to find a single-story, wood-frame home with heavy flames shooting up through the roof.
Firefighters said they had to fight the fire from the outside because of multiple collapses caused by the fire. Unfortunately, despite firefighters’ efforts, officials said the home is a total loss.
SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene just after the fire was considered under control.
A neighboring home also was slightly damaged by the blaze.
No one was home at the time and there were no reports of injuries.
An initial investigation reveals the fire appears to be accidental and may have been sparked by discarded smoking materials.
A neighborhood is being credited for rescuing two dogs and a cat in the home before the fire became too intense and before firefighters were able to arrive on the scene.
