Gwinnett County mom charged in toddler daughter's death
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A Gwinnett County mother has been charged in the murder of her toddler daughter.
On Tuesday, Gwinnett County Police officers responded to a "person down" call in the 4300 block of Paxton Lane in unincorporated Lilburn. The call came in around 3:30 p.m.
The 911 caller, identified as 29-year-old Devin Moon, said her daughter, Reygan Moon, was "unresponsive and cold to touch." Responding officers said the 2-year-old child was found dead at the scene.
Moon told investigators her daughter was born with medical issues which prevented her from gaining weight, and she wasn't immediately charged in the case. An autopsy later revealed Reygan's cause of death was neglect from malnutrition. Her weight at the time she died was just 14 pounds.
Moon was arrested for cruelty to children in the first degree and felony murder. She remains at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
While investigating, police learned Moon was accused of leaving her daughter home alone most nights while she went to work, and she'd previously been reported to DFCS by her own family. She cut off contact with her family members as a result, according to police. Moon's family hadn't seen Reygan in about a year.
