Man hospitalized when traffic stop 'escalated' to officer-involved shooting, deputies say

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said a deputy shot a man trying to escape a traffic stop on Saturday night.

The shooting happened at around 9:30 p.m. on McEver Road.

Officials said a deputy was conducting a traffic stop on a motorcycle that was speeding.

The motorcycle "lost control in attempt to evade the deputy" and the incident "escalated."

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said 37-year-old Buford resident Marshall Anthony Hooper went to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries after a deputy shot him.

The GBI said Hooper crashed his motorcycle trying to get away from police and he ignored commands from law enforcement.

No deputies were injured.
