ATHENS, Ga. - Former Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker says he's excited about graduating from the University of Georgia this week.
Walker, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame who helped lead Georgia to an undefeated season as a freshman in 1980, enrolled at the school after losing his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in 2022.
The loss helped secure Democrats a 51-49 majority in the Senate for two years.
Walker had claimed during his campaign that he graduated from UGA with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, but later acknowledged that he left the university in his junior year to play in the U.S. Football League with the New Jersey Generals.
After stepping away from the spotlight, Walker re-enrolled at UGA and began taking summer courses.
The Republican posted on X that he can't wait to share the moment with some of the current members of the University of Georgia football team, who are fresh off their big win in the SEC Championship.
He's now set to walk across the stage on Friday
The ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum.
