BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police are investigating after hikers discovered partial human remains near the Cahaba River.
AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/2rM3A46 ) that Jefferson County sheriff's Chief Deputy Randy Christian says two men discovered the remains along a creek bank Saturday afternoon while hiking in a wooded area behind Cahaba Forest Cove. Christian says the remains were decomposed, and authorities haven't yet been able to determine race or gender.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office and sheriff's detectives and evidence technicians recovered the remains and evidence. Christian says detectives are reviewing missing persons reports from surrounding agencies. The coroner's office will determine cause of death and positive identification.
