ATLANTA - A homeowner suffered a heart attack and died after burglars tried to break into his pickup truck. Atlanta police say the attempted larceny happened on King George Lane. The victim's wife, Tasha Brown, spoke with FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor.
"You work so hard. You do the right thing. You take care of your home and take care of your family and someone feels entitled to come and try to take it from you," widow Tash Brown said just hours after the ordeal.
Widow recounts what happened
The backstory:
Mrs. Brown still can't believe the tragic turn of events her family experienced Friday morning.
She says her husband, Javon's, alarm went off at 4:30 a.m. Friday for work, but they awoke to a commotion in their driveway as the alarm was going off on their pickup truck.
"My side of the bed is closest to the window. I heard noises, scraping. I looked out the window and saw someone breaking into his truck," she said.
Tasha says there were actually two young people in their driveway on King George Lane. Her husband grabbed his gun and went to scare them off.
"He came out the front door. And stood here, just yelling down the driveway you know, but get off of his property you'll get out of my truck, and you know I'll get out of here. They started shooting," she said. "I have three small children at home. All of their bedrooms are this way. So I was trying to hustle them to safety. I'm worried about, you know, has he been hit,"

"He was able to speak. He was not hit. But then he went into cardiac arrest over the shock. He dropped down. I did CPR. I called 911 until I couldn't feel my arms and hands, but it wasn't enough," Mrs. Brown said with tears in her eyes.
